Meet The Team

Brian has over 35 years’ experience leading rapidly growing financial services organisations, across financial markets, corporate finance, funds management and insurance. Prior to Barrenjoey, Brian spent 15 years at Challenger Limited, including as CEO between 2012 and 2019, CFO, COO and Chief Executive of the Mortgage Securitisation division. Prior to Challenger, Brian held executive roles with Macquarie, Bankers Trust and JP Morgan.

Before joining Barrenjoey, Mr Buchanan was Deputy CFO and Group Treasurer at Challenger where he spent almost 14 years. 

Sophia has over 20 years’ experience in financial services with a focus on leading and growing asset management businesses within Australia and globally. Most recently, Sophia was the Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Maple-Brown Abbott from October 2019 to March 2024, where she spearheaded the firm’s growth in investment capabilities, offerings, services and distribution channels. Prior to this, Sophia was the Chief Operating Officer, Pan Asia, for Janus Henderson Investors based in Singapore, having previously been with Henderson Global Investors as Chief Operating Officer, Australia, from 2013 where she was a key member of the team responsible for establishing and growing the business in Australia. 

Sophia also spent eight years with the Macquarie Group, principally in its asset management division, with experience across strategy, mergers and acquisitions, product and marketing. During this period, she spent time based in Sydney, New York and Philadelphia. Sophia started her career as a solicitor at King & Wood Mallesons. Sophia holds a Bachelor of Laws (Hons) and Bachelor of Commerce (majoring in Accounting and Finance) from The Australian National University. She also holds a Graduate Diploma of Applied Finance and Investments and is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

In addition to expertise building organisational capability Angela brings strong commercial skills having led significant business teams. Before joining Barrenjoey, Angela was Chief Executive of Challenger’s Life business.

Previously, he oversaw UBS’s leading Company Research business (and was a lead ranked Financial Institutions Sector Head). Prior to UBS, Chris worked for the Australian Securities Exchange.

He spent 27 years at UBS and was most recently the Global Co-Head of Flow Rates. Prior to that, he led UBS’s Australian and New Zealand foreign exchange, rates and credit franchise.

At Barrenjoey, he is responsible for providing strategic advice to clients in the infrastructure, power and utilities sectors on mergers and acquisitions, capital raisings and corporate restructurings.

Jarrod previously spent over 12 years at UBS in a similar role. Prior to that Jarrod held roles with Allco Finance Group, ABN AMRO Australia and Dresdner Kleinwort Wassertein.

Prior to joining Barrenjoey, Andrew served as Head of Compliance, Conduct and Operational Risk for JPMorgan in Australia and New Zealand, as well as for Global Banking across Asia Pacific. 

He also spent more than 20 years at UBS, where he held senior roles including Head of Compliance and Operational Risk for the Investment Bank in Asia Pacific. Andrew has extensive experience in navigating complex regulatory environments, building robust risk frameworks, and driving a culture of integrity and accountability across diverse markets.

Prior to joining Barrenjoey in 2020, Annette spent 23 years at UBS most recently as General Counsel. Her expertise spans the full range of investment banking products and services as well as wealth advisory, corporate governance, market conduct, regulatory and workplace matters.
